About five years ago Seattleite Sarah Brooks faced the forlornly blank walls of her new apartment and wished for art. She began attending Art Walks throughout the city, noting a wide price range and vast number of talented artists and awe-inspiring artworks for sale. “If only all of this work could be viewed in one place!” she thought. Out of this came Artsyo: a collaborative effort between Brooks and co-creator Stella Laurenzo. Artsyo’s website was launched November 1st, and offers a time-saving and less daunting alternative to traversing the city in search of your art match made in heaven. Now, users can find and purchase work based on neighborhood, price range, size, medium, shape, and even color palette.

In celebration of their official November launch, Artsyo has announced a “Pimp My Wall” contest. Too hilarious to paraphrase, Artsyo announced on November 1st: “Is a tattered Seahawks poster the pièce de résistance of your living room? Are your walls more boring than a macroeconomics lecture? Is the photo collage of your cat that’s scotch-taped above your bed just maybe responsible for the abrupt ending of that otherwise good date? Worry not! Artsyo is here to Pimp Your Wall.”

And what exactly does this entail? Directions are simple: just take a picture of your epically dismal wall, write up a 50 word or less plea for help, and email both to sarah@artsyo.com by November 29th. Like Artsyo’s Facebook page, and head on over to the website to check out the artwork. Five finalists will be chosen and posted on the Artsyo Facebook page, where they will be left to the mercy of popular vote. The winner will get to pick any piece of original art priced at $500 or less to adorn their wall. Artsyo will even frame the piece and deliver straight to your doorstep.

But wait–there’s more. If you aren’t a procrastinator and get your entry in before November 16th, you will be entered in an additional (and totally random) drawing to receive a free artwork priced at $100 or less. Don’t fret, your wall will still contend for the big one.

Thank you Artsyo–for making original artwork more accessible to all. Here’s to more “pimped” Seattle walls!
