Waiting in Line to Get into Costco in the Time of the Pandemic

On a peaceful spring morning,
waiting in line
here at Costco
to get in,

without my seeing
or even feeling a thing,
the assassin may strike.

Or, he may wait
until I get
out of the car
at home,

or even
attack in my home,
and I won’t
feel a thing.

He’s the best
cloak-and-dagger
in the business.
We’ll never know.

So the best thing is
to make Peace, and
as Rumi advised us
long ago:

Die
before
death.
