Rattle in               Mardi Gras              Swish through
Calloused fingers.      Queue for               Beaded knots.
Tassels welt            Portaloo.               Microwave light.
Pram hood.              Ragged wristlet.


Marshmallows in          Sugar ‘n’                Tatty hide
Front of                 Water firms              Couch. Legs
Gogglebox. Batman        Mohican. Chains          Judder.
Wah-watusis.             Draggle.


Tongue-wagging      Two pearl-white      Polychromatic strobes
To pilfered         Suits. Dragmaids     Twinkle. Clang
Barbie. Restyling   At queer             Into dancer.
Yellow nylon.       Betrothal.


Adults mutter.      Mettlesome crabs      A name
Drapes wait         In bucket.            Demurs to
Impervious.         Pan limbers           Personify. Bewilderment
                    Its fever.            Loosens face.

In 1998 Christopher Barnes won a Northern Arts writers award. In July 2000 he read at Waterstones bookshop to promote the anthology 'Titles Are Bitches'. Christmas 2001 he debuted at Newcastle's famous Morden Tower doing a reading of poems. Each year he read for Proudwords lesbian and gay writing festival and partook in workshops. 2005 saw the publication of his collection LOVEBITES published by Chanticleer Press, 6/1 Jamaica Mews, Edinburgh.
