Each a wave
new life
upon the shore
believing itself
the greatest ever
then falling back
humbled to realize
it was only one
amid an endless
procession
breaking on the sand
and slowly receding
back out to sea
to mix with the waters
of every wave
that has ever been
and every wave-to-be
gathering itself
in the depths.
