me and Galina,
affectionally known as Galochka,
sat on the shady side of an ole river birch overhanging the Neva
a favorite spot for hugging and kissing
first came love,
next comes marriage.
no need for a baby carriage,
she is my baby and I am hers…
got the kind of love fairy tales are made of
I accepted her, she accepted me
the sweet Matricaria Daisy took my breath away,
and still does.
a dream come true…
at first glance my heart knew it had met its mate,
falling in love, even before knowing her name.
demons inside me flared…
a curvaceous waist and a contagious smile
left me jumpier than a kangaroo on scalding sand,
with a flick of the head Galochka’s hair cascaded over her shoulder like a waterfall,
a softly moving waterfall to bury my face in
tantalizing though her beauty be
the enchanting Venus’s true preciousness lies within,
to cite but a snippet,
an understanding, patient and forgiving heart,
a cherry on top be her great sense of humor
all necessarily so,
she’s tolerated 52 years of marriage to yours truly
looking forward to the next half-century…
