They Do It to Help Themselves. It’s About Attention Management.

Sure enough, they helped convince
the rest of us their kids really were
bad weather

We instinctively conflate schooling
with days it rained

Unqualified kids rankle us on days when
weather was bad in America

but this scandal should also call into question
outsize transactions, reputations of such,
in mind until the day after a snowstorm

They exist partly through a bargain
in which melting slush commingles
with the highest-achieving orbit

When wealthy elites launder privilege
outside my window–not appealing

Hardworking peers thought the way to handle
tasks was to do them

A wealthy wastrel actually performed worse
and he went on boring

Pamela Hobart Carter loves Seattle as much for its water and mountains as for its bustle and creativity. She explores the Emerald City daily while walking her dog. Carter used to be a teacher who wrote on the side. Now she is a writer who teaches on the side.
